SG-24.JPGSpare Tube136 viewsHere I am sitting on a spare tube for the 175mm gun. Due to their compression and long-distance firing, the tubes didn't last very long.

SG-27.JPGRe-visiting Iwo Jima?136 viewsThe FDC crew was attempting to be clever in duplicating the flag-raising on Iwo Jima. It was actually the raising of a R-292 antenna. Can't communicate without it. Smiling Greg Malnar on the left leading the event. Great place for a sniper on the hill behind. We did not stay there long enough for anyone to figure that out thankfully.

SG-25.JPGLZ Meade131 views"A" Battery just arriving by "shithook" (Chinook) on LZ Meade. We had just left the comparable "luxury" (?) of LZ English. LZ Meade was dusty, dirty, and worst of all, rocky. Could not fill a sandbag...too hard to dig. Apparently we were not the first unit to occupy the hill as there was a lot of stuff left from previous tenants. No ID's on the guys in the photo.

SG-1.JPGLeaving English behind126 viewsAfter we left LZ English (Bong Son), we set up for a few days on the edge of a runway where a Caribou or two would land quite close. This was just prior to "A" Btry flying off to Kontum from AFB Phu Cat.

SG-23.JPGAirstrip at LZ Pony124 viewsDid I say that we were adjacent to a landing strip? Any closer and I would have lost my head.

SG-26.JPGLZ Meade123 viewsWhat would we have done without the Chinook? This one found a nice level place to park!

SG-3.JPGDusters121 viewsThis is a Twin-40 Duster; they sure made a lot of noise at night. It helped keep the "dinks" out of the wire.
