JCook-113.JPGConvoy Lead vehicleNote reads: "Road March. First tiem since May 11 (1966) when Operation Paul Revere started."
I'm driving the lead vehicle as Capt Osborne, BC, climbs aboard. A dozer leads the way for us.

JCook-109.JPGLooking more like a war zone nowBattery Commander Osborne has the troops in formation for a message. Probably told them to bathe more often. You can now see the glimmer and shine of stateside OD uniforms give way to continuous field duty. Certainly not how we started out!Mar 18, 2012

JCook-105.JPGWhy we called them "Shit-Hooks"A CH-47 was called a "Chinook". They were powerful utility helicopters. A cloud of dust and a heigh-ho Silver...away....away...away with everything that wasn't tied down. Don't mess with a Chinook; you can't win. The downdraft of the blades has to be seen to appreciate the power. It was not uncommon to run away when you saw a Chinook coming in.Mar 18, 2012

JCook38.JPGFrom the "Pink Kitty" to Tent City for the FDCWe bailed out of the "Pink Kitty" FDC. Obviously, it was not sustainable in our new jungle environment. This GP-small tent also served as the FDC sleeping quarters. Mar 15, 2012

JCook11a.jpgGI CoffeeAt least I can make coffee! Hard boil water, add grounds, turn off. Let grounds settle; scoop from top. That's GOOD black coffee. It is brown if not boiled hard.Mar 14, 2012
