Wardell Guyton was an original member of the Operation Blue Light deployment from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and was trained in the "shotgun" detachments. {Shotgun Detachments were men trained to be Door Gunners on the Huey choppers.}

He joined the Reserves after Vietnam and served in Iraq.   He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and is buried in Arlington Cemetery.  Wardell died of leukemia in 2009. 

OBITUARY: 

 WARDELL GUYTON, Lt. Col., USA (Ret.) On Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Retired US Army Lt. Col. Wardell Guyton passed away. Col. Guyton was the beloved father of LaTricia Guyton and Doretea Guyton-Burton. In addition to his daughters, he is survived by four grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers and many dear friends and relatives. 

A viewing will be held at Michigan Park Christian Church, 1600 Taylor Street, NE, Washington, DC Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 1 p.m., with the funeral services following at 2 p.m. Arrangements by McGUIRE.
